What an exciting day for the staff at Charcoal Lane in Gertrude Street Fitzroy. Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex visited and lunched there today, on their whirlind five hour visit to Melbourne.
The restaurant is a social enterprise run by Mission Australia. It provides guidance and opportunity to young Aboriginal people who need a fresh start in life.
The vulnerable indigenous youth are provided with leadership, and are mentored to help them reach their potential and gain long term independence.
The best of native Australian food is to be found here. I can’t wait to dine there.
I have been past plenty of times. I have included a couple of photos of the famous mural which is on the side wall of the building which houses Charcoal Lane. The restaurant is on the corner of Gertrude Street and Little Napier Street where the mural is.
